The main user events in COSMO are the User Seminar and the training courses:
ICCARUS (ICON COSMO CLM ART User Seminar) brings together developers and users of the non-hydrostatic COSMO and ICON models, which are used in numerical weather prediction as well as climate simulations and modelling of air quality and its feedback to the atmosphere. The COSMO- and ICON models do not only share some of their physics parameterizations but also many user groups.
It is dedicated to research activities and scientific applications at various universities and research institutes. It is not necessary to present finished work; regular reports on the current state of the work are also interesting. Contributions on other models are also welcome.
Every year in February/March the meeting is organized by DWD in cooperation with the CLM-Community and the ART developers from the Karlsruhe Institute for Technology. It always takes place in the headquarters of DWD in Offenbach, Germany.
Every year, DWD, the CLM-Community and the Karlsruhe Institute for Technology organize training courses for users of the COSMO-Model. Since 2015 a similar course is organized for the non-hydrostatic modelling framework ICON. These courses are traditionally organized in the Convention Centre of DWD in Langen (near Offenbach), Germany.
Besides theoretical lectures on various aspects of numerical modelling (dynamics, physical parameterizations, data assimilation, etc.) also practical exercises are provided. These exercises are organized in different groups for numerical weather prediction (NWP) and climate simulations (CLM).
Depending on the user demand also additional courses can be offered. In the last years we had additional courses on:
From 2019 on both training courses will be joined and the NWP component of the practical exercises will be for ICON.
In the framework of the WMO Regional Training Center for applied meteorology at IMS, together with Israel's Agency for International Development Cooperation there are venues at Shefayim and Ramat Rachel for COSMO training courses. Scholarships for trainees from developing countries may be possible.
